Gordon Frohman is the main protagonist of the Half-Life 2 comic series, Concerned: The Half-Life and Death of Gordon Frohman, created by Christopher Livingston. This humorous comic takes place before and during the events of Half Life 2 and Episode 1, revealing that he is the "Concerned Citizen" that had wrote the letters that Breen reads on his Breencast, the cause of Ravenholm's infestation, and why there are so many red barrels conveniently placed everywhere. Frohman also features in Concerned 2: A Concerned Rip-Off.

Background[]

Gordon Frohman was employed at the Black Mesa Research Facility in New Mexico as a file clerk under the supervision of Dr. Isaac Kleiner. Frohman was responsible for improving the water textures of the facility with the Source engine. Frohman becomes responsible for the resonance cascade when he accidentally swaps the test sample for a wedge of cheese, dooming the human race for decades to come. During the Black Mesa Incident Frohman befriends a Grunt, a female assassin and an alien known as a Gargantua, and successfully unites them as friends despite being enemies in the main game. How Frohman managed to escape the Black Mesa Research Facility prior to its destruction is unknown.

Death[]

Frohman attempts to stop Gordon Freeman from destroying to citadel dark fusion reactor and killing Wallace Breen, but fails when Frohman wastes time trying to come up with a one-liner. Frohman is thrown from the citadel following the explosion. By the time he lands he crushes an alive Breen at the bottom, which kills him. Frohman is badly injured and muses how he has been able to survive much abuse. He then remembers before arriving in City 17 he activated the "budda" cheat code, which prevented his life dropping below 1. Frohman finds the word funny and utters it, deactivating the cheat code. A group of purple vortigaunts arrive, presumably to rescue Frohman, but he still views them as an enemy and tries to shoot them with his gun. Unimpressed, the Vortigaunts dump Frohman back on the streets of City 17. Frohman later succumbs to his injuries, with a group of rebels confirming that he is officially dead.

Revival[]

Frohman managed to cheat death by reloading to a previous save point, taking place prior to his "death". This time he didn't deactivate the Budda cheat, which spared his life. Frohman began to work on escaping from City 17 before the citadel collapses, although it is unclear if Frohman is successful due to the comic ending up on indefinite hiatus.

Appearance[]

Gordon Frohman is a slim male who is 39 years old with dark cropped hair and a trimmed dark beard and brown eyes. On his arrival in City 17 he wears the standard citizen uniform, which is a denim overall. During his progression his oufit changes, such as wearing rebel gear during the Uprising. He also briefly disguised himself as a Combine Soldier, and near the end of the comic, a Combine Elite.

During his time at Black Mesa (twenty years prior to the events of the comic), Frohman still looked the same as he did in present day, despite only being around 19 years old. He also wore the worn down denim overalls at his work, which he would retain during his arrival in City 17 as a citizen.

Trivia[]

  • Another planned fan comic was proposed titled Concerned 3: The GoldSrc Years of Gordon Frohman, which would be a prequel set during the Black Mesa Incident. Aside from a four page preview of the project, nothing else has been made of it.
